Saturday morning was chilly... Hmm.. I guess it was even cold, with about 20F and fog, covering some streets and disappearing from others. Despite the forecast, there was no snow on the ground, but there was a lot of frost on the grass and trees. So I went to the Botanic Garden in hope to find some frost there. But to my surprise, there was none. But the road and trails were dusted with a light layer of snow...
It seemed that a very light snow fell during the night and changed
the view. It was not what I expected, but still a cool subject to point
the camera at.
Near the entrance I found a large display of Christmas decorations,
also covered in powder snow. While photographing this beautiful ball, I
found my second target of the day - a reflection. So... I guess it
became about snow and reflections...
The pond around the Japanese garden was partially frozen, and this
changed the reflection of the trees and made it different from what I
was used to seeing there.
Chunks of ice looked like they were something else. When I zoomed
in, I realized that they looked much bigger, not like small ice shards,
but like icebergs scattered on the icy surface. It was an interesting
find :)
The dried flowers looked unusual too. The layers of snow changed
their appearance and made them a bit mysterious. But I really liked
that.
I made a circle and returned back to the same spot where I was just an hour ago. Nothing much had changed... everything looked peaceful, and the colors had faded. I don't remember if I've ever seen this landscape so dull and low key...
I kept walking, looking for some snow patterns here and there, and
at one point I found some frost growing on the thin branches of the
trees. It was a fine find, and I really liked those sharp spikes of
ice...
Later I found some more reflections and I couldn't pass by without trying to capture them...
Am I the only one who can see the magical creature here? It has a
really skeptical look, and I asked myself why... Probably because of
what it sees in front of it? Some reflections, of course...
The frost on the leaves looked stunning. I spent some time trying to capture it, and I wasn't sure if I succeeded...
I squinted and immediately found myself high in the mountain,
watching rocky ridges covered in fresh snow. It's interesting how
changing the scale can change your perception of things...
Ups... looks like this tree was fooled by the abnormally warm
December and was ready to sprout leaves or flowers. I guess if it wasn't
for the cold weather and light snow, it would have opened up and
bloomed in just a few days. Too bad it will never happen because of this
snow...
A little more frost... Although it was not as strong as I expected, it still looked incredible.
I made another circle and returned to the Japanese garden... I
don't recall if I've ever seen it like this - faded and with a light
layer of snow...
I didn't expect much from this visit, but I think I found more than
I expected, and it was really cool. I liked the reflections in the
water, still like a mirror, and some white substance in the form of snow
and ice, covering the surfaces and growing on the branches. I hope I
will have the opportunity to see something like this again. And
hopefully soon :)
The pictures were taken on January 04, 2025.
