We were going to check out some places and made our first stop at
Dead Horse Lookout (not technically part of Canyonlands National Park,
but the two are very close and I've always considered this lookout to be
the entry point into Canyonlands).
It was almost 8PM and we were tired, but decided we had some time to enjoy
the sun low above the horizon line and the deep dark shadows cutting
through the valley down below...
And as always, I can’t get over the pine trees growing on the rocks
that have survived the blazing hot Utah sun, freezing winters and high
winds.
The low sun created an interesting effect: on the left
everything
looked just normal, bright and colorful, but on the right side it looked faded, dull and sleepy.
I love these hazy views... but to enjoy them you need to be here just before sunset and don't have plans to travel too far after your stop.
The Colorado river is not flowing straight here, but makes a gooseneck turn (and probably more than one).
The broad vista before us became more and more hazy every minute...
Unfortunately, that day we did not have time to wait for sunset, so... we left the park and continued on to our hotel...
