As I already said (Winter day, winter travel, Winter Park), we chose Winter park because of the hotel.
Hmm... can I call this a hotel? Maybe... A Frame Club is a bit more than
a simple hotel or motel on the side of the road. This is more about
style than an overnight stay... It was built less than a year ago and
can surprise you not only with its buildings ;)
The interiors are modern with a touch of 70s. A-frame design makes
them both quirky and cool (don't get me wrong, it is warm inside, it
just looks cool ;) ). Look here to learn more about it - A Frame Club website.
We had never stayed in anything like that and wanted to give it a
try.. And we were not disappointed at all (and especially liked the glass reflection when we just arrived :) ). We found everything we wanted
there and, probably, will do it again ;)
The bedroom is on the second floor and to get there you need to
climb a steep spiral staircase. But once there you have everything you
need... Even a bath ;) Yep, believe it or not, they offer a bath in the
bedroom and... it was nice, warm and cozy. Don't worry, there is a
shower downstairs for those who aren't adventurous ;)
A small kitchenette makes the stay easier, but there is also a nice restaurant on site which was good.
Every cabin has a small patio, and ours overlooked the woods.
Unfortunately it was too cold to go outside, but if you are staying
there in the summer it'll be a nice place to chill out.
The next morning we woke up late, cooked breakfast and relaxed
before checking out and going off to see something else. By the way, we
appreciate the contactless way the A Frame Club operates. A couple of
hours before you can check in, the access code is emailed to you and
that is all you need. The code is valid until the time for you to check
out and... you don't need to see anyone. Modern and... convenient.
Watch this video to get a better view at the interior:
Don't be afraid, this is not a night guest, but just a decoration for the restaurant ;)
The next morning I walked around and tried to capture the setup. And... it was fun... They built 32 cabins and grouped them nicely in a very small area.
They are all connected by wooden boardwalks and if you don't know
where your cabin is, you are in trouble. It is easy to lose track and
wander around trying to find what you're looking for (use a map in the
parking lot before you start your quest).
A Frame Club is definitely aimed at the skiers. It's located just
half a mile from the nearest ski lift, and shuttles run back and forth
all the time. In each cabin you can also find special ski holders and
boot warmers :)
In case you are planning to go there, find the suitable date. Price
varies and varies greatly... One of the reasons for going the week
before Christmas was the price (which was relatively low). But if we had
stayed just 7 days later, we would have paid three times more. High
season, I guess. Anyway, shop for dates and don't let them scare you
away ;)
