Barr Lake is the place where you might spot a Bald Eagle or two...
BTW - click here if you want to see them - Barr Lake in March. Luck is not always on your
side but don't be disappointed if you miss this bird. You still have a
good time walking around the lake and looking around...
You can see some smaller birds here. Like this House Finch, perching on
the branch. I don't mind having a few around my house, so beautiful
looking birds they are.
Don't forget to look at the lake itself. Isn't it a beautiful view?
While hiking around the lake, we saw many American Robins. They
were everywhere and were always ready to stop for a second or two to
show up...
Even though the water wasn't steel, the reflections were incredible. At some point I was afraid I was having double vision. But after taking a closer look, I calmed down... The second image was upside down, meaning that was just reflection...
- WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL NIGHT, YOU RASCAL!
- Oh woman, not again! Why it's such a big deal?
It wasn't really green yet there, but still... sometimes I had a feeling that I had been transferred into black-and-white movie... because everything looked absolutely colorless...
The killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) is a large plover found in the
Americas. Killdeer get their name from the shrill, wailing kill-deer
call they give so often. Eighteenth-century naturalists also noticed how
noisy Killdeer are, giving them names such as the Chattering Plover and
the Noisy Plover. And... honestly... this small bird just proved that
the name was given to it for a reason ;)
Walking along the canal we saw some strange lines down there...
Nice arabesque... We looked closer and found a large moth was stuck in
the water and was trying to find a river bank to get out. Unfortunately,
unsuccessfully, but fortunately, creating such an intricate pattern on
the surface...
Time to sing...
Killdeer is calling...
