Buena Vista is a nice town in the middle of the banana belt in
Colorado. About 2 hours from Denver and sitting in the valley surrounded
by mountains, trails and peaks. But not only mountains attract people
to come here.
The Arkansas River runs along the
city and gives you some coolness during the hot Summer days. You can
walk
along the river in the park, hike dozens of different trails or you can
enjoy whitewater rafting. They say the best whitewater rafting in
Colorado is here, in Buena Vista.
The Arkansas River doesn't look really big here at headwaters, but later
it'll cross Kansas, Oklahoma and
Arkansas and finally will connect with the Mississippi River (actually
it's the biggest tributary of the Mississippi River). But it happens
many miles away but here. In Buena Vista, it is a small, but strong
stream. You cannot boat here, but you can look at the running water,
hike along the river or raft when the weather permits.
