Another Saturday and another new park to explore. Thanks to my friend who brought to my attention this amazing place to roam. It is not really easy to find a place like that and surprisingly this is a free park, located at foothills, literally at the outskirts of Denver.
Am I the only one who sees the sleeping dog in this picture? :)This place is not far away from Roxborough park and features the same Morrison formation and... these two parks look pretty much alike. Only South Valley Park is a bit closer to where the most people leave... so you choose ;)
The trail is well maintained and easy. It is running up and down, but not steep or rocky. The loop hike is close to 3 miles and it's a pleasure walking there and looking around.
Lyons Back Trail is a short side trail and this one is a bit more challenging. Narrow and rocky it climbs up but provides amazing panoramic views at the valley.
In fact the views across the valley are good from any point of the trail and... it's great place to spend a couple of hours, the only downside of this park is the trail is barely covered by shadows and can be toasty during Summer months. By the way, the office building in the middle is Lockheed Martin's office. Now I want to work here and have a chance to look from the window when I need some distraction ;)
Feels like you are in Utah, huh? Archers park, Denver's branch ;) In fact all the park looks like a small Utah and makes me dream of driving there and seeing the endless red rocks...
Pictures were taken on July 23, 2022.
I’m glad you took this in. Great place!
