There are a lot of small nice towns in the mountains. And most of them look alike... but they are still not the same. They all have quiet curvy streets, small houses, trees... But each has something that makes them unique. Probably this is why we really enjoy spending time exploring small towns.
Cripple Creek is a tiny cozy mining town...It has a rich history, but let's not talk about it now and just walk along the streets and have a first impression of this place. If you enter the town from the West, you drive up and down jumping from one hill to another. And you see a small house or two sitting on the top of each hill... And trees... If you choose the right weather, the trees are covered with snow and everything looks like a fairy tale...
And... you know... you always can find something unusual in a place like Cripple Creek. What about a small computer store located in a house like this?
Downtown is just down the street and if you stop on the last hill you can a great view on it and mountain ridges dissolving in foggy clouds...
One of the first brick buildings on your way is the museum... Outlaws and Lawmen Jail Museum ;) It's not unique and you can find it in many small towns, but this one is really special. But... let's pass it now and return back to visit it later.
Tellers County Court House. Can be found just across from Jail ;) And a sculpture of a miner just across from the Court House. Doesn't this guy look sharp in his jacket, hat and tie?
Murals and wall ads are really common for old places.
Fire Tracks in Theater... Hmm... Interesting idea, huh?
And the Ice Sculptures on the Main Street. No traffic on the street is allowed during this weekend, so spectators can walk freely and enjoy... And the sculptures are really great, but we'd like to see the town, so let's skip the main street for now too.
Cripple Creek is the second gambling location in Colorado. If you like to gamble, you have to go to Central City and Black Hawk (closer to Denver) or drive a couple of hours to Cripple Creek. The casinos here are smaller and all of them located in the historical buildings on Main Street.
Casinos and restaurants... What else does the gambler need? Probably nothing ;)
But... it was a good time to spend wandering around, but we needed to head home, so we passed the old car (it's information center today), made a few sharp turns and... hit the mountain highway...
