The art of photography is relatively young. Just under two hundred years old. Not surprisingly, it wasn't the same during all these years. And most of the time the pictures were colorless. Even 40-50 years ago we still mostly lived in the world of black-and-white pictures and no one felt bad about that. Now we cannot even imagine to see the picture with the color stripped off but... Sometimes the black and white is an interesting option to explore.
I like black and white pictures, always have. And I don't agree when someone says the black and white pictures are colorless and boring. They are not. They are just different.
When we strip the color from the image we also remove the distraction and normality. Looking at bright modern photos all you need is a quick glance and you already recognized everything and are ready to see the next one. Looking to the black and white image you need to turn on your imagination and restore the object, the color and the shape. You spend more time looking at the pictures and pay more attention to the details.
You can even "create" the image in your mind and see something that does not exist in real life. Texture, for example.
Even a simple object like these dried flower buds looks different. You can feel their nakedness and abandonment.
Dark blue sky makes you feel happy but if they are just dark it adds some tragedy to this picture.
Looking at colorless black and white pictures is a good exercise and helps you to find a different dimension in simple 2-dimensional graphics. Try it now, it's so easy...
The pictures we are looking at today are the same I published just yesterday. The only difference was they were converted to remove the colors. And... they look just not the same, aren't they?
Pictures were taken on February 06, 2021.
