There are thousands of flowers blooming in Colorado every year. You can find all colors and shapes, all sizes and scents... But this is one flower that attracts thousands of people in July and makes them drive all the way up to Chatfield Farms to spend a hot day in July wandering around and enjoying looking at this flower. It's a lavender...
Cars are parked outside and the visitors walk to the Botanic Garden to see the rows of lavender. Some people come here just to roam between the flower beds and watch. Some come for a phone session ;) And this is great, everyone can find a good way to spend time here.
Surely not only lavender can be found here and there are still hundreds of different flowers waiting for you everywhere.
Most of the people stay close to the main route, but if you walk further, you can find wild meadows, trails and... some farm attractions, like riding in the water barrels ;)
Or you can return back, closer to the entry point where dozens of vendors selling their creations, everything from the bunches of lavender, to pictures and fragrance.
Or you can walk a bit just to find a group of the people sitting in the shadows and doing what their ancestors were doing. They are spinning the yarn, dying it (not really, just displaying the dyed fabric).
At the next table you can learn about real magic. Art of transformation - you can see how the flowers, scattered on the piece of fabric transformed into amazing textile, bright and incredibly beautiful... You can even buy a piece. Just need to wait it dries out :)
Or you can walk along the fence and step into the field, where the grapes are ripening, the corn is growing, the apples and cherries are ready to jump at your table.
But the lavender is the queen and you can find it everywhere. The scent is bold and thick. You cannot avoid it and it makes you feel light dizziness... the pleasant one actually :)
And now let's just jump one year ahead and visit the same place again. This time I was a bit too late and needed to park farther from the garden. But it pays you with some entertainment, like riding the real farm tractor, feeling all the bumps on the road and all the dust of the hot Summer day.
This day was even hotter (think about 100 degrees), the scent was even thicker and the colors were even wilder.
Pictures were taken on July 21, 2018 and July 20, 2019.
