About this blog:
We love traveling. We always capture tons of pictures from wherever we've been and we like sharing our traveling experiences with our friends. So, this is how this blog began - as short stories with pictures in an attempt to share where we've been and what we've seen. Even not stories , but just notes. Nothing serious and big. Mostly I'm writing these stories on a rush and sometimes even don't have time to re-read them. So, I apologize in advance for possible typos here and there. There can be some factual errors or inaccuracies and they even might be corrected one day. Don't hesitate to contact me if you find something that needs to be fixed and don't expect these notes to be a perfect novels ;) The stories in this blog are not in chronological order, but I will try to remember to put the date of the trip. So... welcome to this blog and, hopefully, you will find something interesting and have the same feeling we had when we were there. Let's go...
And... by the way... all pictures and texts in this blog are protected by International and USA Copyright laws, so if you'd like to repost or use something on your page - contact me first.
Using anything published here without permission is violation of the law and... it isn't really nice...

Knock on wood, it's Halloween

We all know that the last day of October is special. It's Halloween, the celebration of... honestly, I am not sure if I know what we are celebrating this day. In fact, this is a mix of pagan and Christian traditions with some modern additions to it. But... it is a day of fun and it has its own traditions and attributes...

One of these traditions are costumes. Hundreds of people wear weird stuff this day, but, mostly, they dress up as evil spirits. What can I say. No one is interested in saints now, evil is more attractive.

Some towns have some specials for this day and Manitou Springs is one of them. Coffin Race is a Manitou Springs special and attracts hundreds of people every year. It is not exactly a race... And they don't use exactly coffins either ;) But... It is what it is and this is fun.

Once we reached the town we already knew, this would be a good day. Frist, because of hundreds of spectators gathering around and ready for a show. Second, because of all the teams, getting ready for the race. And... third, because of nice noisy guys, playing something between country and jazz...

It was clear, the teams are ready. Not for the race yet though. Before the race, a parade would take place and every team would be able to show up themselves and this is part of the celebration too.

A few more steps along the street and we found the crowd waiting for show. Everyone was waiting for midnight... Sorry, for noon ;

And once the bells rang for 12PM the parade began. You know, I have a feeling, every parade in the USA starts with bikers. So here they were - three roaring Harleys started the show...

The hearses (hm, what else could we expect to see on Halloween parade), many... scary and funny... rided by creatures I have no names for...

A few minutes later the teams started to move along the street and show up. Pirates and presidents... vampires and vikings... Oz county characters and boys wearing pink socks... endless vanity fair and show of freaks...

Не менее получаса зрители радостно приветствуют и рассматривают этих веселящихся существ, каким-то образом сошедших со страниц и экранов самых разных ужастиков...

To be continued... Touch not me...

Pictures were taken on October 30, 2010.
